Forces
Today we continued our discussion on forces and also learned about an invention that is trying to reduce the build up of water bottles in landfills. We got to play a game of Kahoot where we identified what was happening in each picture, and then ended with a special science magic trick.

Earth Day Recap
Today we started by learning about the Ooho edible water bottle. This water bottle is a plastic alternative pouch made from fast-growing, sustainable brown seaweed. The Ooho will biodegrade in a matter of weeks, just like a piece of fruit. You can read all about the Ooho here: https://thekidshouldseethis.com/post/ooho-edible-water-bottle-va-museum-video

After the video we discussed different activities we did on earth day and different ways we could use the Ooho material in other products to reduce plastic.

Roller Coaster
We learned about the forces that make a roller coaster go and stop through a wonderopolis reading. We learned that roller coaster rides have a motorized chain that pull them up to the crest of a big hill, but other than that forces help the roller coaster along. There are also boosters on longer roller coasters to keep moving, but most of the time roller coasters are only using forces. We also learned about what force helps a rollercoaster stop and slow down.

We also watched the videos that went along with the wonderopolis reading.

Kahoot
Test your knowledge of pushes and pulls by playing along with this fun Kahoot challenge. Click on the link below and start playing. You will be shown a picture and have to decide if it is a push, pull, both, or neither. I hope you have fun!

Science Magic
Here is how we ended class with some science magic. The muscles in our hands are all connected, so when you add a bit of pressure and only try to keep your index fingers separated they will get tired very fast. That is why the magic trick of having the person will your fingers together works so well.

Roller Coaster POV
Here is a fun bonus activity if you want to explore some more roller coasters. Watch one or all of these videos from the front seat of a roller coaster, and see what you notice.
When does the roller coaster need some help? Are there moments of push or pull? What force acts on the roller coaster to make it go so fast?

I hope you enjoy these activities and I look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
